  • Dimensions: 180 x 140 cm

Best known for his large-scale paintings that combine stylistic figures of modernist abstraction with the stylized accents of extreme sports, Ben Edmunds' practice moves between painting, sculpture, photography, branding, utilitarian objects and wearable devices. Through the lens of abstract expressionism and colofield painting, in which painting sought to become a transcendental experience, his work can be seen as a renewed modernism, a search for meaning in the context of fashion and trends, "couch to 5k," remote personal training and wellness coaching.

ARTIST: BEN EDMUNDS

Edmunds grew up in rural England surrounded by a culture of outdoor leisure activities. He draws on this personal history of sailing, windsurfing and cycling to explore the transcendental parallel between abstract painting and adventure sports. For the artist, these sports offer an escape, an urge to go beyond the familiar confines of geography and the body. the kun-sten artist questions the supposed anti-utilitarianism of bastract painting and proposes to explore the function of a painting as a tool.
