Enjoying water in the 21st century
The design team set out from a simple observation: people always get up from behind their desk or leave the room to get a drink of water. Wherever you are, you leave your workstation to fetch a glass of water from the kitchen, a backroom or some out of the way little corner. As though the very notion of water flowing from a tap is somehow inappropriate. Something you would prefer to keep out of sight and out of earshot.
Maister’s designers simply turned this approach on its head. How about not hiding the water tap (or the water dispenser), but doing the very opposite : giving it pride of place in the room. Not away from the company of people gathered, but at the very heart of it. And in such a way that it does not serve as a mere accessory in its setting but acts to transform the space itself. For one thing on the strength of its striking appearance. And for another because the Arena brings about a new dynamic. The water column as a focal point that attracts bystanders and passers-by. With people gathering impromptu in small groups and chatting away over a fresh glass of water.
The appeal of soft curves
Which shape would you pick for a water dispenser unit? What is as soft as water and prompts people to drink more of it whilst socialising? The right answer is round shapes. The Arena has a cylinder-shaped base with the refined arched tap on top. Pure, sleek and stable, as well as soft and playful. The combination with the rectangular space in which the furniture unit is set up makes for an interesting contrast that feels highly contemporary.
In spite of its distinct character, the AQUALEX Arena is an adaptable furniture unit. You can have it finished in all manner of materials (lacquered, stucco, veneer, etc.) and colours in order to perfectly match your interior.
If you are looking to take things another step further and make a statement, go for the AQUALEX Arena Translucent. A water column made from dyed synthetic resin. A transparent material that absorbs the space around it and produces shade variations that conjure up water waves - an enchanting effect that is certain to be the focus of attention.
Gets people talking
As you can tell: the AQUALEX Arena is not just any old water dispenser you would set up in the kitchen or the storage room. Much more likely locations include public spaces, albeit inside the building. In the lobby of a hotel for instance, the entrance hall of an office building, the lounge of a creative agency, the foyer of a seminar centre, etc. Places where people convene to meet or large numbers of employees or visitors walk by.
Turn your building into a trendy gathering ground
Need another reason to go for an AQUALEX Arena? The concept is very much in keeping with modern-day office interior design trends. Back in the day, staff would travel to get to and from work and on other in-service travel duties. This was at a time when the main purpose of office buildings was for people to do a day’s work. The corona crisis however has brought about a sea change in this respect. Employees took to working from home on a large scale. Which obviously required adjustments to be made, both at home and in the way companies organise work. But now that people taken to it, they are not prepared to go back to the days of old.
The result is that offices are seeing fewer people. If people do come into work, they do so to attend meetings, training sessions and other social events. Company premises are made to adapt to this new reality and are being transformed from places of work into gathering grounds. Spaces that are pleasurable settings to spend time, that foster social intercourse between people and promote the exchange of ideas. The source of inspiration for these new offices are five-star hotels. Beautifully designed spaces, fitted with all mod cons with lots of sitting corners, comfortable seats, drink corners, quality coffee, et cetera. Given its striking design, healthy and delicious sparkling water and its role as a facilitator of conversation, the AQUALEX Arena perfect fits in with this trend.
