This photograph is a photo that is part of the book, The Body Will Thrive (2019-2020) In it, Lore Stessel collects images with different subjects: a mountain landscape seen from the air, ice walls rising from the water, a man and woman swimming, dancing people, close-ups of plants, details of heads, hands... In almost all these images, the term "in motion" applies: the maker of the image can move
(the photographer, the painter), just as its subject can move (the swimmer, the dancer, the plants...).
This picture was taken by Lore Stessel from a boat, as it were "in motion". In each case, these are grand landscapes without any trace of people. From a rather romantic perspective - which Lore Stessel is perhaps not entirely unfamiliar with - we might think of the (compelling) relationship between nature and man, and the accompanying sense of the immobility/indefiniteness of time (the mountains), but also the sense of its inexorable slipping away and disappearing (the crumbling and melting of the ice).
