For the BOZAR show of Philippe Vandenberg a limited edition of 250 copies were made. A scream of joy!
The exhibition Philippe Vandenberg. Molenbeek is the report of an eyewitness. It contains large and small observations on paper from the last years of Philippe Vandenberg in Molenbeek. In his drawings and assemblages he takes the spectator through a burlesque Molen-beek: an imaginary site where personal and collective traumas are interwoven with metro-politan problems and world conflicts. Through this satirical universe, Vandenberg exposes the recurring structures of oppression, fundamentalism and unitarianism. Molenbeek is the first solo exhibition of late works on paper by Philippe Vandenberg (1952-2009).

THE ARTIST: PHILIPPE VANDENBERG

Philippe Vandenberg’s (1952-2009) drawings and paintings strongly denounce humanity. They are moving, provocative and force us to reflect. The central theme is man’s struggle with himself and others, observed through the lens of cultural, political and social history. In Vandenberg’s art, this struggle is often critical, sometimes compassionate, but always imagined in rich colour and with a pinch of humour
